This full week of gundog training will challenge both handlers and dogs, enabling them to progress towards the higher Gundog Club field tests, Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate on dummies, and Novice and Open working tests.
Our Hunting Skills Camp, led by Helen, is suitable for...
- All breeds of retrievers, hunting retriever breeds e.g. spaniels, and HPRs.
- Anyone who is hoping to work their dog in the beating line or rough shooting. It is also suitable for picking up dogs who still need to learn how to hunt for game.
- Dogs who have completed our Beginner and Pet Gundog and / or Graduate Foundation for Gundog course.
- Dogs which have passed their Gundog Club Grade 2 field assessment and/or are working towards Grade 3 and above.
- Those looking to work their gundog in the shooting field.
- Handlers looking to participate in working tests and trials.
- Pet gundog owners who want to continue gundog training beyond the basics as a fun hobby and to give their dogs an outlet for their natural hunting desires.
- Dogs who have been introduced to the sound of shot, and are not gun shy.
Our Hunting Skills Camp will cover topics including:
- Hunting
- Sweeping
- Walked up training
- Retriever training including marks, memories and blinds
- Water work
- Arousal management
- Steadiness
- Building connection and better communications
- Starting pistols, dummy launchers, and bolting rabbits will be introduced during the week.
The exercises will be set to meet the needs of the participants on the day. It will be a fun task-based programme of learning for you with your dog.
There will also be the possibility of taking the Gundog Club Graded Assessment depending on interest. If you are interested in being assessed, then please notify on booking.
*On Thursday evening, there will be a group supper at a local pub. This is scheduled for 4.30 pm so we can leave straight from the training venue. This is a dog-friendly pub, and your dogs are welcome to sit with us in the restaurant area, or, if the weather permits, in the garden while we eat.
