Our bi-weekly Steadiness evening classes are suitable for all breeds, of any age, with no previous training experience needed.
Steadiness isn’t just about sitting still - it’s about helping your gundog manage their emotions and develop true self-control.
Our steadiness evening course is designed to shift your focus from managing your dog's steadiness with extra cues (such as sit or wait), or physical restraints (like leads and steady fobs), to instead helping your dog develop their own self-control, regulate their own emotions and learn how to self-manage.
It is about showing your gundog how to steady themselves, so that they always automatically wait for your send cue, no matter what the situation or environment.
This course is ideal for working gundogs, competition dogs, and pet gundogs, as the skills will be applicable to all areas of life - whether you want a dog that doesn't run in on retrieves, is steady to birds flushing, doesn't lunge on the lead, or steal food from your kitchen counters.
Part of our Indoor Winter Training for Gundogs series, the Steadiness evening classes are held in our purpose-built training barn in Charlton, Worcestershire.
Steadiness is an ideal topic to cover during the winter months (when it's dark early and the weather is poor), as what we teach can be practised in a small space at home, such as your kitchen or living room.
The first class will begin on Monday 3rd November from 7 to 9pm and will run for four sessions across 8 weeks (full list of dates above).
Sessions will be held biweekly, one week of structured training at the barn, followed by one week off to ensure you have plenty of time to practice at home. Due to the limited indoor space, each class is limited to 6 dogs and handlers.
Led by Helen, our Steadiness evening classes will look at:
- What steadiness really means for our gundogs, why it's a challenge and some things to consider from a dog's point of view.
- The “Get It, Don’t Get It” game recipe - a fun and powerful way to teach impulse control, which will become the backbone of your steadiness training.
