Booking must be made through Vale & West

The Vale & West Gundog Club will be hosting a Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate on Game training day and assessment here at the Clicker Gundog Training Centre and on our training shoot.

On the assessment day, Kennel Club limited rules and regulations apply.

Please book your place with the Vale & West Gundog Club by clicking here.

The aim of the Working Gundog Certificate (WGC) is to provide credible proof that a handler and dog are a competent partnership, with the qualities to fulfil the general requirements of work on a shoot. It is not a competition, nor is it an assessment of the
suitability of dogs for entry into competitive gundog events.

The certificate is open to all Kennel Club pedigree registered dogs, crossbreeds and unregistered dogs, whose owners wish to demonstrate their dog’s working ability. Owners of crossbreed and previously unregistered dogs wishing to take the WGC must register the dog(s) on the Kennel Club Activity Register in advance.

The criteria are laid down as minimum standards of good practice and the levels of training necessary, so that handler and dog can show they could be an asset to a shoot, and will not interfere with the well being of other people, dogs or livestock. The criteria are: Control, Obedience, Temperament, Hunting and, where appropriate, Retrieving.

The purpose is to see whether the handler/dog partnership is ready for the shooting field. It is, therefore, essential that all the necessary qualities of a competent working partnership be demonstrated.

More details about the assessment can be found on the Kennel Club website by clicking here.
